The "High Point Photo of the Year" awards category

About this category  ▼
The rules  ▼

The High Point Photo of the Year award category is our way of acknowledging the achievements of Ireland's finest amateur landscape photographers.

To be considered for a High Point Photo of the Year award, a photo needs to have been the winner in one of the four High Point Ireland Photo competitions held on Twitter during that year. In December, those four winning photos will face a final round of voting on Twitter which will identify that year's High Point Photo of the Year.

There are three awards available in this category:
  • Gold Award: the photo with most "likes" in the final vote.
  • Silver Award: the photo with second most "likes" in the final vote.
  • Bronze Award: the photo with third most "likes" in the final vote.

The High Point Photo of the Year awards competition is only open to amateur photographers who have a Twitter account.

The rules

Photographers
  • To be shortlisted for the final vote in December, your photo needs to have been the winner in one of the four High Point Ireland Photo competitions held on Twitter during that year. Please submit your entry in those competitions bearing in mind the submission date, the photo guidelines and the diversity guidelines.
  • At midnight at the start of 26th December, we will tweet the URL of each of the four winning photo's original tweets from that year.
  • We will also "like" each of the four tweets we post for the duration of the final voting period.
  • Feel free to promote the tweet we post which contains the photo you originally submitted.

Voters
  • The five-day voting period will open at midnight at the start of 26th December and will close at midnight at the end of 30th December.
  • The four shortlisted entries will appear exclusively in our Twitter likes during the final voting period. Please vote for your favourite by giving it a "like". In the final round of voting, the official entry is tweeted by @HiPointIreland, not the original tweeter.
  • Feel free to promote your favourite.

Winner selection
  • The photo with the most "likes" in the final vote receives the Gold Award, the photo with the second most receives Silver, and the photo with the third most receives Bronze.
  • In the event of a draw, the entry in joint 1st position which receives the largest number of retweets will be the winner. If there is still no outright winner, the voting period will be extended by one full day at a time for the joint 1st place entries only until there is an outright winner.
  • Award winners will be announced as soon as possible after the voting period closes. This announcement is expected to be made on 1st January unless the voting period needs to be extended.

If you are planning to visit any of the locations on the Gribbon list of Ireland's major geographical High Points, please be aware that Highpointeering, rambling, hill-walking, hiking, mountaineering, mountain running and cycling are risk sports. High Point Ireland, Kieron Gribbon (the website's author and founder of High Point Ireland) and Donard Media (the website's publisher) accept no responsibility for any injury, loss or inconvenience sustained by anyone using this website. Personal safety is entirely the participant's own responsibility.
The inclusion of locations on the Gribbon list of Ireland's major geographical High Points is based entirely on each location's ability to meet the necessary criteria for at least one of the eight primary sub-lists contained on this website. High Point Ireland, Kieron Gribbon and Donard Media recommend that anyone planning to visit any of the High Point locations on the list should check for potential access restrictions and to request permission from the relevant landowner(s) in advance.
