How to log High Point location visits using Peakhunter
- Download the Peakhunter app to your smartphone.
- Create a personal profile on Peakhunter.
- Register for the current High Point Ireland Challenge on Peakhunter (optional). Every successful challenger who visits 25 different High Point locations during the year will earn a digital badge for their Peakhunter profile. Find out more...
- Visit High Point locations in the real world. Don't forget to bring your smartphone to log your visits.
- While you are physically present at a High Point location, the Peakhunter app will allow you to log it as a successfull visit. When the app asks you to create a log, all you have to do is press the specified button on your phone.
- If the app does not permit you to log a visit, you may have to wait for a couple of minutes for the GPS signal to improve. If it still doesnt allow you to log it, you may have to move a few metres away from the actual real-world High Point location to enter the logging zone.
- If you have to move away from a High Point location to log it on the app, that location's saved coordinates may be slightly out on Peakhunter. Feel free to create a new waypoint where you believe it should be. Do not create a new peak for any High Point locations. Send us an email to let us know if you create a waypoint for an incorrect High Point location. Before creating new waypoints, please study the area immediately surrounding the High Point location to visually identify the true High Point on the ground, bearing in mind that any man-made markers (trig pillars, cairns, crosses, etc) might not necessarily represent the High Point.
- Each log will initially be stored offline on your phone until you have adequate mobile coverage to upload to the Peakhunter platform, at which point you will be required to perform a sync.
- Take some photos at each High Point location when you log it. You can add these to your log entries on Peakhunter. Don't forget to take a selfie or two while you are there. Not only are selfies a great way to remind your future self of past achievements, they also serve as a secondary means of verification for visits if you are taking part in any of the initiatives listed above. As a backup, each visit to a High Point location should be verifiable from a photograph or video (i.e. a photograph or video which clearly shows you at each relevant High Point location). It is unlikely that photographic or video evidence will be requested as proof of visits to High Point locations, but it is recommended to have this backup in place. If photographic / video evidence is requested, it should be viewable on one of the following websites: Twitter; Facebook; Instagram; Flickr; YouTube; or your own website / blog. Peakhunter logs will be the only acceptable means of verification unless photographic / video evidence is specifically requested by us. In the very unlikely event that such a request were to be made, it will be stated on this page, High Point Ireland's social media channels and the High Point Ireland blog.
- Each log entry created on the Peakhunter platform has its own unique URL address. These URLs can easily be copied from the "My Log" or "Log Book" section of your profile while you are logged into the Peakhunter website or app. If you are planning to submit Highpointeer Score Forms to us during the year as part of our annual awards and league competitions, please copy / paste these log entry URLs into the relevant section of the form.
