There are two categories of hillwalking challenges in Ireland. One is the local challenge hill walks which can be undertaken in their entirety as a single continuous route in a single day. The other is the All-Ireland hill list challenges which require motorised transfers between trail sections, usually over several days. Each of these two categories have their own specific Fastest Known Time (FKT) rules which must be adhered to in the interest of participant and public safety during a FKT attempt and to facilitate the verification process afterwards.
