The Year-Long Irish High Point Challenges are a unique set of 12 All-Ireland and Provincial hillwalking challenges. Each of the All-Ireland High Points Challenges is based on one of Ireland's 8 primary themed High Point sub-lists which together comprise the complete list of Ireland's Major Geographical High Points. Each of the Provincial High Point Challenges is based on one of the 4 non-overlapping secondary Provincial High Point sub-lists which have been derived from the list of Ireland's Major Geographical High Points.
The 12 High Point Challenges can be undertaken at any time over any duration, but we promote them as year-long challenges. The objective of each challenge is to visit every High Point on a specific sub-list within a year between 1st January and 31st December. Once all locations have been visited and logged using the Peakhunter app, a Certificate of Completion can be claimed using our online Hillwalking Challenge Completion Form (Year-Long Challenges). Locations logged during the Sport Hillwalking competition season can also earn points in the All-Ireland Hillwalking Championships and Specialist Awards competitions.
PLEASE NOTE: When completing the Hillwalking Challenge Completion Form (Year-Long Challenges), you will be required to log into your Peakhunter account in order to copy and paste the URL of a log entry from it to answer one of the questions. The log entry must contain a photo of you standing at one of the required locations listed in the challenge you are claiming for and it must have been logged during 2025. This evidence will allow us to verify that you are a living human who has actively walked the challenge.
PLEASE NOTE: Many of the High Points should only be visited by experienced, well-equipped hillwalkers and mountaineers.
The Irish High Point Challenges also provide interesting charity-fundraising opportunities for hillwalkers.
