Connect with us on Social Media - We are @hipointireland

We are @hipointireland

Find us on Twitter, Threads, Facebook and Instagram using the icons below. If you use any of these social media platforms, you are very welcome to follow us there. Please note that the development of the High Point Ireland website is where we direct most of our screen time. Being the core of our online presence, the website is the focal point of our internet-based activities. For this reason, we only visit our social media channels when we have news and announcements of our own to post. Getting these messages to you is the primary purpose of our social media channels. Feel free to interact with our posts if you wish to, but there are no expectations from us for you to do so. While others are driven by getting likes and shares, we are not. During our social media visits, we will also interact with any Irish Sport Hillwalking stories, photos, videos, news and announcements which have been brought to our attention by using the @hipointireland tag.

In general, we aim to limit our social media usage to a maximum of one hour in total each week. Not only have we chosen this approach for time management and efficiency reasons, we also believe that less exposure to social media (and screens in general) helps us to maintain and improve our mental health while freeing up additional time for physical activity.

Having said that, we do recognise the benefits of using social media. Each time we go on to post our own news and announcements, we will also use that time to share and like as many of your Irish Sport Hillwalking posts as we can. We are keen to see relevant stories, photos and videos from Ireland-based Sport Hillwalkers.

Share your posts with us on social media any time. We'll interact with them next time we're on.

Helping you find more posts

Follow us on social media if you are looking for Sport Hillwalking posts from all over Ireland. You can find us on Twitter, Threads, Facebook and Instagram. We want to share as many of your posts as possible on our feeds to showcase Ireland's Sport Hillwalking locations and to inspire you to get involved in the All-Ireland Hillwalking Championships.

Helping you reach a bigger audience

If you're posting photos or videos from a recently-visited Irish mountain summit or High Point, we are more than happy to help you reach a bigger audience of like-minded Sport Hillwalkers. Here's how we do it.

We check for new notifications on Twitter, Threads, Facebook and Instagram. If we find posts which are relevant to our specialist topic and are positive in tone, we will generally give them likes. We aim to share as many of these as possible on the @hipointireland feeds each time we visit our social media channels. If we have anything to add, we will do so in the comments.

In order to interact with your social media posts, we need to be able to find them first. This is where you can help. The easiest way to bring your posts to our attention on Twitter, Threads, Facebook and Instagram is by tagging them @hipointireland. Each time you do this, we will usually (but not always) receive a notification.

Please note that a share on our feed is not guaranteed even if it is tagged. We want our feeds to be as diverse as possible in terms of the whos and the wheres. For this reason, we prefer not to have multiple posts by the same poster appearing consecutively in our feeds. This should also bring about some diversity in the places being featured.

The more eye-catching your post is, the higher its chances of being shared by us. Text-only posts will not be shared. We may also share untagged posts brought to our attention through third-party shares. Comments containing suspicious-looking URLs will be deleted where possible and will not be shared. Any URL which does not generate a relevant and authentic-looking preview will be regarded as suspicious and potentially harmful.

Please note that we do not promote or encourage the use of drones in tranquil, scenic locations. The vast majority of hillwalkers seek the peace and quiet that can only be found in our upland areas. For this reason, we do not interact with any social media posts which include photos or video footage captured using drones. As these devices become more popular, they have the potential to become as big a nuisance in our countryside as littering and quad bikes.

Any posts shared by @hipointireland may also be shared by @irelandwalking. The Ireland Walking Guide is the first-stop information resource for recreational walking in Ireland.

Use our affiliate links

All of our Sport Hillwalking initiatives are 100% free for you to take part in. However, please note that we do have significant operational costs which we cover on a voluntary basis ourselves. The long-term development strategy for High Point Ireland, Sport Hillwalking and our growing family of independent Irish information websites will continue to be implemented over the coming years and for as long as it takes until our strategic goals are achieved. To help us speed things along, we'd be most grateful if you would consider using the affiliate links we have set up on The Ireland Travel Guide website to buy your outdoor gear and book accommodation / transport online in the future. Using these links will not affect the price you pay at checkout. However, each purchase / booking you make could send a small commission our way at no extra cost to you. Make no mistake, this is certainly not a get-rich-quick effort, but rather a very slow drip-feed of pennies and cents to partially cover the time, effort and money we continue to invest in our range of independent projects. Thank you for your support.
